The Cambridge School is a school of unparalleled academic and cultural strength considering its relatively short history. This strength comes from its clear and distinctive mission and vision, its dedicated faculty who believe in our mission wholeheartedly and strive to execute it excellently, and an admissions process whose goal is to find as many excellent mission-fit families and students as possible. We believe that the more mission-fit families and students we have, the stronger and better our school is. These families fortify the school in numerous ways, both tangible and intangible.

A robust and growing tuition assistance program supports The Cambridge School’s commitment to finding the best mission-fit families and students regardless of their ability to pay the full tuition. Students who are excellent academic, behavioral, and cultural fits for our school with parents who resonate deeply with our mission are encouraged to apply to The Cambridge School regardless of financial need.

Tuition assistance is awarded on the basis of demonstrated financial need. Assistance is available to students in Kindergarten through Grade 12. Once a financial aid award is made to a family, continuing assistance can be applied for annually and anticipated as long as financial need continues to be demonstrated.

The Tuition Assistance program at The Cambridge School is need-based and not merit-based. Assistance decisions are guided by financial data submitted to FACTS Grant & Aid. Applications are reviewed by The Cambridge School’s Tuition Assistance Committee, who ultimately make the award decision. Many factors are considered when making awards – number of children, life stage, other dependents, regional cost of living, assets, liabilities, etc.

Need-Based Assistance

The Cambridge School is committed to making a robust, classical education accessible to students from all backgrounds, regardless of financial means. Tuition Assistance is awarded to students in Kindergarten through Grade 12 and is decided on the basis of need and availability of funds. Each year, The Cambridge School awards a significant amount in need-based scholarships to enroll a student body that represents our larger community.

The school partners with FACTS Grant & Aid, a third-party financial aid tool. This company collects financial data and provides information to The Cambridge School that is reviewed by the Tuition Assistance Program Committee. Award decisions will be made as soon as all required information is received and reviewed.

Who should apply for Tuition Assistance?

Anyone who is concerned that they may not be able to afford the full cost of The Cambridge School education for their children should apply. Many factors are considered by the company that processes our Tuition Assistance applications.

Since our founding in 2006, we welcome socio-economically diverse parents from across the San Diego area who commit themselves to the pursuit of classical and Christian education for their children at The Cambridge School. If you are applying to The Cambridge School for the first time, please begin your application for Tuition Assistance concurrently.

Other Tuition Assistance Program Policies

Separated or Divorced Parents

The Cambridge School expects parents to pay the educational costs for their children to the full extent they are financially able. This principle applies to all parents, even those who are separated or divorced. The Cambridge School is not bound by, and will not honor, any decrees, agreement, or legal document excusing a parent from financial responsibility for a child’s education. The Cambridge school will neither be bound by a parent who has disclaimed financial responsibility for the student. Bothparents are expected to file all of the necessary forms and to comply fully with all of the guidelines and requirements of the tuition assistance process. Therefore, tax returns, forms, and pertinent documents are required of all parents. The custodial and non-custodial parent must each fill out the FAST application. Re-marriage of either natural parent creates a new family unit, but since the parents still have a parental obligation, the income and assets of the entire family unit (including new family units and step-parents) are viewed as relevant for the purposes of calculating a family’s level of financial need. The Cambridge School considers the obligations of the parents to their new family situation in determining the award, but will not allocate the award on a proportional basis among the families. The responsibility for communication and payment lies with the custodial parent.

Voluntary Income Reduction by Parent

The Cambridge School’s policy is to decline to subsidize tuition assistance for a parent’s voluntary reduction in income (i.e. voluntarily terminating employment, choosing to start a business, voluntarily replacing full-time work with part-time work, etc.). It is assumed that the parent has considered the impact such a choice would have on his/her ability to afford the educational costs of The Cambridge School, and that such a change could potentially prevent a child from enrolling or returning to school. This situation results in a calculation of need on the basis of the family’s income prior to the voluntary reduction. Returning to school, for professional or graduate work, or to change careers, is considered a voluntary reduction in income and is treated as such.

Parents Who Elect Not to Work

The Cambridge School expects families to do their utmost to provide for their students’ educational costs. Where one parent elects not to work and has children who are in school full-time, the Tuition Assistance Program Committee will re-calculate need using an estimated, minimum income for the non-working parent. Note that this policy does not require the parent to work. It only attempts to adjust the level of need by accounting for the minimum income that the parent could earn if he or she chose to return to work. The rationale for this policy is similar to that for voluntary reductions in income (see above). If a parent can document that he or she is disabled or otherwise unable to work (caring for an ailing or aged parent, for example), this policy would not apply.
