Is my child ready for Kindergarten?
7 Kindergarten Readiness Areas
After years of teaching Kindergarten,
it never fails that every spring a few parents will track me down and with fear and trembling ask, “Will my child be ready for Kindergarten in the fall?” This is a great question that weighs heavily on the hearts and minds of most parents wanting the best for their youngsters. To answer this question I have put together a readiness booklet with some helpful tips and fun activities to do with your child.
Getting your child Kindergarten ready is much more than having them master basic letter and number recognition. The goal is to reveal the wonderment of the world around us and raise excited, life-long learners.
Here is a list of 7 Kindergarten readiness indicators taken from Scholastic.com.
- Enthusiasm Towards Learning
- Solid Oral Language Skills
- The Ability to Listen
- Desire to Be Independent
- The Ability to Play Well with Others
- Strong Fine Motor Skills
- Basic Letter and Number Recognition
