National Merit Scholar Recipients

We give thanks to God and are pleased to announce that four members of the first graduating class of The Cambridge School have achieved the title of National Merit Scholar!  This is a wonderful accomplishment for a young school with its first class of seniors. Congratulations to National Hispanic Scholar Lucas Settergren, Commended Scholars Wesley Witsken and Joshua Kim, and Semifinalist Haley Hom (who will advance to the Finalist level of the competition.)

About 1.6 million juniors entered the 2018 National Merit Scholarship Program by taking the 2016 Preliminary SAT/National Merit Scholarship Qualifying Test (PSAT/NMSQT), which served as an initial screen of program entrants.  The nationwide pool of Semifinalists, representing less than one percent of U.S. high school seniors, includes the highest-scoring entrants in each state.

While standardized tests are not what we ultimately value in a Cambridge education and can do little to help measure the cultivation of things like wisdom and virtue in our students and their love for the lovely in life, we are certainly glad to have students who, in addition to being well-formed in intellect and affections, are doing well on tests like these. Soli Deo Gloria!
